Date Listed: 22/06/2008 http://www.succulentdelights.com.au Pictured are succulent cuttings of varieties such as aloe, aoenium, aptenia, carpobrotus, cotyledon, crassula, echeverias, haworthias, kalanchoe, mesembryanthemum, sedums, sempervivums, senecio and more. What you are buying are all stem cuttings or pups (offsets) so your cuttings will grow quickly. The size of the cuttings and offsets will be relative to the size of the mature plant. Some will be small, some large and others will have roots (offsets) in which you can plant straight into the garden. There will be ground covers, shrubs and accent (focal) plants included in this mix. Please note this item is available by mail order only. Working in the nursery industry and an avid collector of succulents, I have hundreds of varieties. You can be assured that some of the varieties you receive cannot be found at your average nursery. How to grow your succulents from cuttings: One of the very best things about succulent growing is creating new plants from cuttings. It is a rewarding and economical hobby that helps your garden grow. Upon ordering your succulent cuttings, it is time to get your soil ready. You can use pre prepared succulent and cacti mix or just as effective is equal parts of free draining potting mix and horticultural sand or I find the cheapest brand on the shelf the most effective! Upon receiving your pack of cuttings and offsets open immediately and remove from box. Keep out of strong sunlight while preparing to pot. A lot of sites recommend dipping the cut end of the succulent into a rooting hormone, but I have propagated thousands of cuttings and find this an unnecessary expense. Set the cuttings directly into a pot of pre-moistened soil. Place the pots in a bright location away from direct sun. Water the cuttings only when the soil feels dry to the touch. Avoid fertilizer until you begin to see new growth which is an indication that the cuttings are developing roots. This can be 1 week to 1 months depending upon variety. Note: In Autumn and Winter it is beneficial, but not necessary is to place a clear plastic bag over each pot, using sticks to keep the plastic off the cuttings. The bag will act as a miniature greenhouse and help the cuttings along. Remove the bag after a week to 10 days and water. |
